Karen Christian

I'm Karen Christian.  I've been a WiNSUG member from the beginning (early 2004) and offered to get a website rolling for this group.  My first install of SBS was 4.0 with and upgrade to 4.5 and a later move to SBS2000 with new hardware.  I've been in the industry since 1982 and provided frontline and backline national PC support (purchase, install, support, development, etc.) from 1984 to 1989 for a company out of Irvine, California.  I attend training courses and seminars frequently.  I've been in business since 1996 and wouldn't ever go back to the "corporate life".  I am a member of the Technology Advisory Board for both San Marcos High School and Palomar College (Regional Occupational Program).  I have an MBA.  I am a California native, married, live in San Marcos with my husband Morgan (retired fire engineer) and my youngest daughter Kym (a CSUSM sophmore).  I have two sons (24 and 29) who are both in the industry (see www.xclan.org [just for fun] and www.oneorzero.com).  One works at eBay on the the massive web farm and the other at a worldwide weather tracking business doing website and server support.  I am a partner in North County Technology Group (www.nctg.com) with Michael Brunson.

Our first installation of SBS2003 for a client was an optical company in Carlsbad.  They have wifi 5 clients and were motivated to get a server due to a line of business application they wanted to run that used SQL.  The owner recently discovered the beauty of RWW (Remote Web Workplace) and his ability to securely run QuickBooks on his office computer from home :)  As we've discovered, the rollout of features in many businesses seems slow from our standards but focusing on business needs and methods of operation is the best direction to take.
